Long PDFs are awkward to share when the recipient only needs part of them - one invoice out of a monthly batch, a single certificate from a scanned stack, or the first half of a report. Split PDF breaks a document into separate files you can download individually, either one file per page or in two even halves. The original document stays untouched on your device.
How to split a PDF
- 1Add the PDF you want to break up.
- 2Choose how it should be split - every page separately or into two halves.
- 3Run the tool and download the resulting files.
When splitting is the right tool
Splitting suits batch documents that were produced or scanned as one long file: payroll slips, statements, exam papers, multi-property listings or a stack of receipts photographed in one session. Instead of sending the whole bundle and asking someone to find page nine, you send exactly the file they need - which is also better practice when the other pages contain other people's data.
Every output file is a genuine PDF, not an image, so page size, rotation, embedded fonts and any text layer survive the split and remain searchable. Splitting a document into single pages produces one download per page, so a hundred-page file becomes a hundred files; if you only want a specific range instead, Extract pages is the better fit, and Delete pages is better when you want one document minus a few sheets. File sizes add up to roughly the original, since nothing is recompressed - shared resources such as fonts are copied into each part, so very small pages can look proportionally larger. Interactive links that pointed to a page now living in another file will stop resolving. As with every MobiPDF tool, the split happens locally and nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked about Split PDF
Can I split out one specific page range?
This tool splits into single pages or two halves. To keep a precise range such as pages 4-9 in one document, use the Extract pages tool instead.
How do I get the separate files?
Each resulting document appears in the results list with its own download button, so you can save only the parts you actually need.
Do the split files stay searchable?
Yes. Pages are copied as real PDF pages, so the existing text layer, fonts and page sizes are preserved and text remains selectable.
Does splitting change the original document?
No. The file on your device is never modified; the tool only creates new documents from copies of its pages.
Why do the parts add up to more than the original?
Resources such as embedded fonts have to be included in every output file, so a document split into many single pages can total slightly more than the source.
What happens to internal links and bookmarks?
Links pointing to a page that ended up in a different output file can no longer resolve, and document-level bookmarks may not carry across.
